Penn Carey Law recently concluded a comprehensive campaign, raising $280 million, which was designed to promote and support the school's most critical needs and priorities, including scholarship, faculty support, and the growth of our centers and institutes. The Annual Fund played a crucial role in the campaign's success.
Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director is both a gift officer and a strategic partner for the keystone of the Law School's annual giving program. The Assistant Director has direct and primary responsibility for planning, organizing, and administering the programming and solicitation of young alumni, six annual Class Reunions, Graduating Class Gift Drive, and the Class Agent program. As a first development contact for some donors, the Assistant Director will play the crucial role of conveying the impact and possibilities of philanthropy at Penn Law, with a focus on our youngest alumni.
Partner with Director of Annual Giving and prospect management staff to oversee a pool of prospective leadership donors to the Annual Fund, identifying pipeline prospects, and engaging in strategic collaboration to identify ways to move them through the donor cycle.
Using a moves management metric of 150+ moves, utilize live and virtual contact to guide annual giving prospects through the donor cycle from identification through solicitation and stewardship, with a focus on leadership gifts and increases.
Young Alumni Engagement
In collaboration with the Director, leads fundraising strategy for young alumni. Responsible for engaging our newest donor base. This includes leading the strategic planning, young alumni pipeline development, solicitation, conception of targeted appeals, stewardship and conducting in-person meetings with prospects.
Collaborates with Alumni Relations to co-lead strategy and oversight of GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) Ambassador program. This includes identification of ambassadors, cultivation of a pipeline of future members, strategic development and execution of GOLD events in collaboration with young alumni leaders, and attendance at events.
Annual Giving Programs
Plans, organizes and implements 50% of class reunion fundraising programs. This includes recruiting committees, developing solicitation strategies for all members of each class, personally soliciting members of the class and committee and working in conjunction with the Director of Annual Giving, Major Gifts colleagues, and Alumni Relations team to help the class plan the reunion event.
Oversees the Class Agent Program. This includes developing an annual giving "ask" for Class Agents to solicit their classmates, as well as, managing the relationship between Class Agents and the Law Development and Alumni Relations Office.
Manages and implements the third year (3L) Graduating Class Gift Program. This includes working closely with the 3L class leadership, staffing events, and developing and implementing creative fundraising strategies for the 3L Class to reach their fundraising goals.
Serves as the Law DAR contact for student groups, assisting them in complying with University fundraising guidelines through collaboration with Gifts Processing, Student Affairs and Business Affairs. Advises students as needed throughout academic year.
Other duties as assigned
- BA/BS; one to three years of fundraising or related experience for Annual Giving Officer A and two to four years of fundraising or related experience for Annual Giving Officer B; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated solicitation skills.
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize tasks and priorities, and to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work independently, but also collaboratively, as part of a goal-oriented team
- Demonstrated success in program management.
- Frequent domestic travel required.
