Description
The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors of Criminal Justice, with expected start dates of January 1, 2026. The starting salary approved for each 9-month position is $63,000.

The Department of Criminal Justice, within the College of Arts and Sciences, offers a B.S. in Criminal Justice (including an online B.S. program), and maintains a growing graduate program (M.S.) in Criminal Justice. The department has approximately 12 tenured, tenure-track, and lecturer faculty and we serve 400 majors between our undergraduate and graduate programs.

Specialization:

Position 1: Area of specialization is Courts/Sentencing

Position 2: Area of specialization is open, with strong preference given to candidates who can teach Research Methods and Statistics


Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related field. Individuals who are "all but dissertation" (ABD) are also eligible for hire but must have completed the doctorate within 1 year of their start date.
  • Ability to teach introductory, advanced, and graduate courses in Criminal Justice and/or Criminology.
  • Teaching experience and/or willingness to teach required courses in the Criminal Justice undergraduate curriculum (e.g., Capstone, Criminology, Courts, Research Methods, etc.). Previous experience in online teaching is desirable.
  • Have a clear research agenda with an established record of, or demonstrated potential for, peer-reviewed scholarship.
  • Commitment to graduate and undergraduate student mentorship, as well as willingness to engage in meaningful service activities.
  • Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities (i.e., face-to-face, online, and hybrid).
  • Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan, including a commitment to establishing community-based partnerships.
