DESCRIPTION


Mendocino College is currently accepting applications for part-time, Restorative Justice Counselor. The position is defined as 5-10 hours per week. This is a categorically funded part-time position. Funding has been identified for 4 years. We seek a candidate to commit to the program for the funding duration.

This position is anticipated to be onboarded in Summer 2025 for a period of training and preparation for a Fall 2025 cohort. The first semester will be rooted in collaboration, course instruction and student success to support a strong start in Fall 2025.

Fall 2025 anticipates a cohort of students to experience college and a strong anchor to their Mendocino College educational and social experience.

The Restorative Justice program, Rising Scholars initiative is an academic, counseling, and mentoring program that has improved college persistence and success rates for justice impacted students throughout the California Community College system. The Restorative Justice Program, Eagles Rise provides academic support, basic needs resources, social engagement, instructional supplies, technology, and other campus support. The Restorative Justice program offers one on one support, and course offering specifically to students currently incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and students 12-25 who have been impacted by the justice system.

ASSIGNMENT/SALARY

Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly contract basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment. Salary is determined by the total contract hours. Hourly contract rate is dependent on qualifications ($69.36 - $96.69). Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the semester.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee.

Paid Time Off: Sick leave is earned based on teaching load percentage.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalSTRS Retirement

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES


The successful candidate will support success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration. This includes the following duties and/or assignments.

Counselor Related Duties - Phases 1 & 2:

Within the cohort module:
  • Identify Career Goals
  • Develop short and long-term educational plans
  • Provide academic, personal and career counseling
  • Assist with four-year college/university applications
  • Teach a personal development class each semester
    1. This class meets once a week in-person and/or online
    2. Is transfer applicable or applicable to the AA degree and
    3. Focuses on successful transfer process & strategies
  • Participation in program orientation

Counselor Related Duties - Phases 3 & 4:
  • Hold individual & group meetings to facilitate transfer process
  • Assisting with college applications
  • Assisting with letters of recommendation
  • Assisting with interviews
  • Assisting with field trips
  • Assisting with financial aid, scholarship and internship opportunities

Continuous:
  • Collaboration with program manager on student success
  • Program implementation
  • Reporting
  • Weekly team meetings


QUALIFICATIONS


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.

Posses an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender/gender-identity, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and willingness to create safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,

(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
