Job Description
The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Director of Advancement for the Winston College of Law at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement, the Director of Advancement is responsible for implementing the strategic direction for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals to support priorities for the college. The purpose of this position is to secure philanthropic gifts that impact the strategic direction set forth for the college by academic leadership.


Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Front-Line Fundraising: Manage a portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects. Build relationships among prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities. Build partnerships across campus and the Foundation to maximize fundraising results for the College.

Administration: Create and maintain accurate records for a portfolio of donors and prospects including travel and contact reports in CRM system. Communicate in ways that are donor-centric while furthering the mission of the University of Tennessee.

Collaboration: Partner with faculty and administrators to align priorities of the Winston College of Law with donor goals and interests. Attend meetings with faculty, staff and administration related to specific projects and ongoing initiatives. Work with central advancement offices to ensure that potential gift prospects are properly qualified, cultivated, and stewarded. Coordinate the development of appropriate fundraising materials including case statements, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports and campaigns status reports.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the Director of Advancement position is required to have:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of development, sales, or related experience
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships, secure transformative philanthropic support, and achieve ambitious fundraising goals
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Willingness to travel overnight and work occasional weekends, as needed


A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.

Note - Candidates holding a graduate degree must have at least 3 years of experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:
  • Master's degree
  • Higher education fundraising experience
