Summary:
The responsibilities for this position include some or all of the following: teaching, service, scholarship, and related administrative tasks. Faculty members are expected to create an effective teaching environment that is conducive to student learning. The classroom and coursework should contain elements that recognize and enhance components of the learning process, employ effective delivery of instructional materials, and are responsive to the personal and professional needs of students.

Department: School of Humanities & Social Sciences: Law & Justice Studies

Education/Experience:
Masters degree in criminal justice or a closely-related field from a regionally accredited institution plus three years of criminal justice experience in a practical setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Doctorate degree preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
Knowledge of and/or experience working in the criminal justice system.

Excellent communication skills

Commitment to excellence in teaching in the classroom.

Ability to effectively utilize technology including WebXpress, Blackboard, and university electronic templates such as the syllabus template.

Ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities.

Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of students.

Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate undergraduate students.

Familiarity with instructional techniques designed to reach students of varying preparation levels and abilities.

Working (or advanced) knowledge in Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.

Essential Functions:
Teaching responsibilities include time spent in a traditional classroom setting and in immediate preparation for course; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies; reviewing written examinations and papers; evaluating presentations; and timely returning all student items. Evaluating, updating, and revising course materials on a regular and ongoing basis in accordance with published faculty workload and departmental requirements..

Student advising includes time spent meeting or online with students regarding academic, curricular and career matters.

Engaging in activities such as regular attendance at department meetings, faculty meeting, University meeting and professional development.

Engaging in professional peer review as an essential feature of effective teaching.

Preparing and distribute course syllabi according to university and departmental requirements.

Grading all assignments, quizzes, projects, and/or exams as described in the course syllabi.

Participating in the assessment activities of the Department, Division, and University as directed.

Administrative responsibilities include writing syllabi, grading course work, and submitting midterm and final grades.

Therefore, all faculty members are expected to serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public.
