Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 4 for the Department of Criminal Justice. The position will support the department with scheduling, budget, alumni relations, and human resources functions. Other duties include, but are not limited to: answering questions about degree requirements and department programs; assisting students with enrollment; serving as the first contact for the department; assisting the chair and department faculty with general administrative needs; maintaining detailed records; serving as the department scheduler; assisting the graduate director as requested regarding graduate student recruitment; maintaining all department accounts and processing all financial and budgetary forms including managing the department Pcards and maintaining inventory; preparing HR documents for new hires; processing travel requests and claims; working with the college's Development Office to build alumni relations to coordinate the department scholarship committee; reviewing policies and procedures as outlined by the Financial Aid Office and donor agreements; providing application information for scholarships; and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Department Information

The Department of Criminal Justice is part of the School of Social Research and Justice Studies in the College of Liberal Arts. The classroom content of criminal justice is interdisciplinary, drawing on theories developed in a variety of fields. From sociology and psychology are derived theories regarding the causes of crime and delinquency. Law, political science and history provide information about the development of law and the applications of sanctions within the legal process.
