Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary: The Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice is responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of core and elective criminal justice courses within the Criminal Justice BA, BAS, Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigations minors, and the Master of Criminal Justice Leadership and Policy degree program. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Courses will be taught via a combination of in-person, hybrid, and distance delivery modalities. While teaching will be the successful candidate's primary responsibility, advising, service, and scholarship in the discipline are also expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following (other duties may be assigned):

Teaching core and elective criminal justice courses, which may include the following topic areas: introductory criminal justice, courts, law, legal procedure, and research methods.

Teaching in other areas of specialization within the criminal justice discipline will be considered, requisite with the candidate's experience and expertise.

The ability to teach in-person, hybrid, and online modalities.

The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Scholarship in the discipline, student advising, and service to the department and profession are expected.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • JD combined with significant practical experience in the legal field. A master's degree alone will not be considered for this position.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate-level criminal justice courses.
  • Experience with basic classroom technology.


    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Public Administration (supplemented by practical criminal justice experience), or a closely related field (accompanied by a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology).
  • Practical experience in the criminal justice system.
  • Graduate teaching experience in criminal justice, criminology, and/or public administration.
  • Experience teaching in in-person, hybrid, and online modalities.
  • Experience with learning management systems, video conferencing software, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Candidates without extensive teaching experience but with significant experience in the criminal justice field will be considered.
