Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor - Criminal Justice

Penn State Hazleton invites applications for a Criminal Justice, Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor (rank determined by qualifications) This a 36-week, multi-year appointment, to begin August 15, 2023, or as negotiated.

Responsibilities: Teach each semester using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments will include introductory and upper-level courses in Criminal Justice. Teaching assignments may require teaching day and/or evening as needed. Engage in activities to stay current in the discipline. Participate in course, curriculum, and program development. Advise students and provide career guidance. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Engage in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Requires sharing courses with other campuses as needed teaching remotely by Zoom or web-based both synchronously or asynchronously. This position will support efforts to deliver a baccalaureate program in Criminal Justice offered at the campus.

Qualifications: Minimum of Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Juris Doctor, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is required. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Ability to support diverse student body and campus community, including appreciation and respect of differences in race and ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation, religious affiliation, age and life experience, nationality and language, and in physical capabilities. Penn State Hazleton is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide. It is a student-centered, residential campus of approximately 525 students. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as 13 baccalaureate degrees, including a B.S. in Criminal Justice and 5 associate degrees.

Students and faculty at Penn State Hazleton have all the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small, and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention.
